Predicación Convincente
Rev. Dr. Lis Valle-Ruiz offers four sessions on mujerista preaching — an approach grounded in the experiences of working-class Latina women in the United States. Drawing on trauma theory, performance studies, and decolonial perspectives, she presents practical models for preaching on trauma, sexual violence, and theatrical arts, alongside a foundational introduction to mujerista theology and homiletics. Presented in collaboration with Obra Hipsana.
In collaboration with Obra Hispana, we are proud to present this four-part video series, wherein Rev. Dr. Lis Valle-Ruiz — homiletician, liturgist, and professor at McCormick Theological Seminary — introduces preachers to mujerista preaching: a homiletical approach rooted in the experiences of working-class Latina women living in the United States. Drawing on performance theory, trauma studies, and decolonial and queer perspectives, Valle-Ruiz offers a rich, embodied vision of what it means to preach from the margins.
Each session stands alone and addresses a distinct dimension of mujerista homiletics:
- Mujerista Preaching — an introduction to mujerista theology and its implications for the purposes and craft of preaching
- Preaching on Trauma and Healing — a model drawn from Dr. Judith Lewis Herman’s trauma theory, correlated with three dimensions of preaching
- Preaching on the Trauma of Sexual Violence — a model for preaching that promotes cultural change around sexual violence, developed through Valle-Ruiz’s own experience as a co-preacher at Vanderbilt University
- Preaching Through Theatrical and Performing Arts — an exploration of dramatized preaching rooted in the biblical and historical tradition, with practical guidelines for creating embodied sermons
Each session is presented in Spanish with English subtitles.
